Here is a lovely antique reproduction of
a French BRU doll. It was originally made during the
1880's. It is marked bru. The doll's head is fabulous with her many,
many eyelashes, and delicate coloring which has been applied using
the same techniques utilized in years gone by...learned in this modern
time through study of the antique dolls, and experimentation with all available
paints and medias. The fine porcelain used requires at least five separate
firings in our studio kiln to achieve the finished piece.
The porcelain
body is jointed at the neck, shoulders, and hips . The
stringing of the parts is secure and will allow the doll to be posed, though
care must be taken. All the joints are padded for a beautiful, working,
doll body.
The doll's full wig is hand
crafted mohair and is styled with a French wrap-around braid which
with delicate tendrils softly framing her face.

Her costume is a drop-waist knife-pleated skirt, with an
overlay of lace. The bodice is fashioned with a front shirred
plasteron, framed prettily with fine lace. Her long sleeves also are edged
with the same lace at the elbows and wrist. Beneath it all, her underslip
is the same knife pleats in the white skirt. She wears pantaloons, edged
with white lace. Her wired, lace picture hat is trimmed with ribbon
matching peach color of her dress. To complete her outfit, she wears her
jewelry which is a tiny pair of hand-wired earrings of faceted glass beads and
pearls. White bow-tie shoes are embellished with rosettes and pearls.

The blue paperweight eyes of this doll are all glass with deep
pupils which are magnified by the drop of clear glass which has been placed over
the iris. The blue color is a little deeper than the image. The
image on the right above is closest to the color.
Doll Height is 14 1/2"tall. She comes with her own
doll stand.
