The costume is that of a fashionable lady
doll of her time. It consists of a skirt which is round and four gore
styled with pleating drawn to the back. Beneath the skirt is a bustle
pad and appropriate undergarments. The bodice is tight fitting with four
panels shaping the back and waist darts shaping the front. The full
drapery is
bouffant style, attached to the bodice and held in place by draping tapes
underneath. The bodice closes in the front with tiny buttons and loops.
The sleeves are long and fitted with detachable cuffs trimmed with lace and
rosettes. The fabrics are vintage but synthetic, a wonderful close copy
of old fashioned fabrics.
The skirt and hat are
trimmed with layers of knife pleated ruffles. Soft feathers that will
catch the breeze, and self formed roses complete the embellishment of the
hat. The costume is all hand stitched with some machine stitching as
well.
The doll's body is a
reproduction of an antique leather body. It is composition and not
jointed. The waist is small and the hips are generous on this body,
but perfectly shaped for a lady doll!
The Steiner head chosen
is fabulous with her many, many eyelashes, and delicate coloring which has
been applied using the same techniques utilized in years
gone by...learned in this modern time through study of the antique dolls,
and experimenting with all available paints and medias. The fine
porcelain used requires at least five separate firings in our studio kiln to
achieve the finished piece.
The eyes
are deep brown in color, hand crafted glass in the likeness of the old French
eyes..
