Here is a lovely
reproduction of Jumeau's Portrait doll. (27" tall!( It was originally made during the
1880's. It is marked 14. The doll's head is fabulous with her many,
many eyelashes, and delicate coloring which has been applied using
the same techniques utilized in years gone by...learned in this modern
time through study of the antique dolls, and experimentation with all available
paints and medias. The fine porcelain used requires at least five separate
firings in our studio kiln to achieve the finished piece.
The Porcelain
body is jointed at the wrists, elbows, shoulders, hips, and knees. The
stringing of the parts is secure and will allow the doll to be posed, though
care must be taken. All the joints are padded for a beautiful, working,
doll body.
The doll's full wig is a
deep rich brown color with ringlets around the face and long curls dropping
to the waist. There is a braid at the crown. The style is French.

The costume is
typically French in design with the shirred front, extra full sleeves,
pleated skirt and lavishly trimmed with lace and roses. The skirt has
three layers! Two layers of pleated skirts and finished with a layer
of lace trimmed netting. The undergarments are appropriate for the
doll, white in color. The hat is a large one with a wide shirred brim,
embellished with flowers, ribbons and feathers to delight the eye.
-
The
eyes are unusually rare and gorgeous, perfectly matched one of a kind,
adding depth, beauty, and movement to the doll.
They have been hand blown right here in our own glass studio using the
finest available European glass, mixing the colors, and then, when
the eye is formed, a drop of clear crystal is placed upon the iris,
magnifying the depth of color.
-
Human Hair eyelashes have been
applied to the upper lid but underneath them are the wonderful, many
stroke painted eyelashes. Human Hair eyelashes can be removed if
desired.
